ChildRightNow opened a day school for pre-school children in Baliposi, in the Indian state of Odisha in 2016 and another day school in Dengam in December 2021. Thanks to these schools, we can offer children a better future by providing them with a school education, regular health check-ups and hot meals so they are no longer malnourished.

What we do

For six half-days a week, orphans and children from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds aged three to six are taught at the day schools in Baliposi and Dengam. Thanks to the attendance of the day school, the illiteracy rate and poverty in this region is minimised. In addition, the children are prevented from having to work as day labourers. After classes, the children receive a balanced lunch. For many children, it is the only warm meal of the day, as their parents are very poor. In addition, the children receive breakfast before class, as many come to school with an empty stomach. Furthermore, medical check-ups are carried out at the school every two months by an experienced doctor and the children receive medicine and vitamins if needed.

As the school children come from poor backgrounds, ChildRightNow provides them with school supplies such as writing materials and books and regularly distributes other aid such as food and clothes. At the age of six, the children transfer from our day school to the public school. It has been shown that the children of our day school perform very well compared to the other children in the public school and do not drop out of school. This is due to the fact that Anwesana, the local project partner of ChildRightNow, supports the children of the day school very well and also communicates the importance of school education to the parents.

Currently, about 50 children attend classes at the Day Care School Baliposi. The Day Care School Dengam currently has around 35 children.
