ChildRightNow is currently funding four day schools for
children of pre-school age in the Indian state of Odisha. Thanks to these schools we can offer the children a better future by providing them with an education education, regular health checks and hot meals so that they no longer suffer from meals so that they are no longer malnourished
What we do
The day schools in Baliposi (since 2016), Dengam (since 2021), Nachhipur (since 2023) and Purunadihi (since 2024) teach orphans and children from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds aged three to six for six half-days a week. Attending the day school minimises the illiteracy rate and poverty in this region. It also prevents the children from having to work as day labourers. After lessons, the children receive a balanced lunch. For many children, this is the only hot meal of the day as their parents are very poor. The children are also given breakfast before school, as many come to school on an empty stomach. Furthermore, medical check-ups are carried out at the school every two months by an experienced doctor and the children are given medicine and vitamins if necessary.
As the schoolchildren come from poor backgrounds, ChildRightNow provides them with school materials such as writing materials and books and regularly distributes other supplies such as food and clothing.
At the age of six, the children transfer from our day school to state school. It has been shown that the children at our day school perform very well compared to the other children at the public school and do not drop out of school. This is due to the fact that Anwesana, ChildRightNow's local project partner, supports the children at the day school very well and also conveys the importance of school education to the parents.
Around 50 children are currently attending classes at the Baliposi Day Care School, around 40 children each in Dengam and Nachhipur and around 53 children in Purunadihi.
