A Better Future for Children in the Slums of Jakarta and Banten
Budget: CHF 116'796
The ‘Bright Futures Clear Vision’ programme aimed to sustainably improve the lives of children in the slum areas of Jakarta and Banten. Through targeted measures, we were not only able to restore sight, but also promote access to technology and expand educational opportunities. The programme took place between October and December 2023
The successes of the programme were significant:
- Number of beneficiaries:
- The programme successfully reached and provided 1'000 primary school children in the slums of Jakarta and Banten with glasses, which they received after an eye test to improve their vision.
- In addition, 200 primary and secondary schools received desktop computers to promote access to technology in these communities. - Demographic justice:
- The demographic breakdown of beneficiaries centred on children aged 6 to 15 years.
- The programme ensured gender-equitable participation by ensuring equal access to technology and visual aids for both boys and girls. - Geographical coverage:
- Through targeted work in the slum areas of Jakarta and Banten, the programme focused on regions where access to technology and visual aids was particularly poor.
- The geographical coverage helped to improve educational opportunities in these disadvantaged communities and give children a brighter future.
These three key successes reflect the effectiveness and broad impact of the Bright Futures Clear Vision programme in not only restoring sight, but also promoting education and technology in disadvantaged communities.
