Since the beginning of 2023, we have been working together with our Indian partner Sangrami in the Balasore district to sustainably reduce trafficking in women and fight to ensure the human dignity of the disadvantaged groups of women.

What we do

India is considered one of the most important countries of origin, transit and destination for trafficking in women and children in South Asia. The victims are mostly from rural areas, uneducated, unemployed and poor. In the shadow of poverty and the social pressure of dowry, they become easy prey for the unscrupulous traffickers. Once they are involved in the trade, they are exploited for the rest of their lives.

Together with our partner Sangrami, we focus on targeted intervention, using local safety nets in the vulnerable districts to fight trafficking directly at the grassroots level. We also address socio-economic issues that are responsible for trafficking in order to create a positive environment for the realisation of the fundamental rights of children and women. Building a database helps us identify victims, returned victims and vulnerable areas where the risk is particularly high. Mobilisation and sensitisation of parents and especially government officials and police officers will also be focused. Thus, in addition to promoting a people's movement against trafficking, we can fight trafficking at all levels, both district and national.
